IT-Enterprise Presents Practical AI Transformation Scenarios for Libraries at International UniLibNSD 2026 Conference

Experts from Ukrainian IT company IT-Enterprise took part in the 11th International Scientific and Practical Conference “University Library at a New Stage of Social Communications Development” (UniLibNSD 2026), held on October 8–9. The event brought together 300 online participants from 10 countries. This year’s conference focused on rethinking the knowledge ecosystem and the role of libraries in the age of artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

The conference was organized by the Scientific and Technical Library of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies (Ukraine), with IT-Enterprise as its technology partner, together with Kaunas University of Technology Library (Lithuania) and the University of Perpetual Help System LAGUNA Library (the Philippines), with support from Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science.

In his presentation, “The Library in the AI-Era Knowledge Ecosystem: New Services, Risks and Technologies,” Oleksandr Ochkasov, AI Analyst at IT-Enterprise, shared his vision for the future of library systems in a world where more than 50% of students already actively use AI tools for research.

“Artificial intelligence is changing the way people access knowledge. Instead of following a lengthy process from catalog searches to source analysis, users can get an answer in seconds. But speed does not guarantee accuracy. That is why, in the age of generative AI, the value of libraries is increasingly rooted in trust, high-quality context and reliable primary sources. The new task for libraries is to provide AI systems with verified, high-quality data,” emphasized Oleksandr Ochkasov, AI Analyst at IT-Enterprise.

The expert presented practical AI tools for libraries and outlined specific technology use cases that institutions can start implementing today:

  • Cataloging, classification and metadata: Automated document recognition, metadata assignment and duplicate detection, with specialists retaining oversight to ensure the quality and reliability of the results.
  • Semantic search across digital collections: Natural-language search across printed, scanned and handwritten materials. Researchers can spend significantly less time selecting keywords and synonyms, while quickly uncovering relevant sources hidden in vast archives—including materials they might not have known existed.
  • Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG): Combining the capabilities of large language models (LLMs) with a library’s private knowledge base to generate accurate answers accompanied by direct links to primary sources for verification.
  • Security and privacy: Flexible model deployment options, from cloud environments to local servers, combined with strict access controls when handling confidential information.

To demonstrate how AI can transform the user experience of information retrieval, the speaker showcased a working AI agent built using Google technologies (Gemini) specifically for conference participants. The agent analyzes conference materials in real time and answers user queries in natural language.

The speaker also noted that IT-Enterprise, through the European Digital Innovation Hub EDIH Kyiv HiTech, offers institutions and libraries expert consultations, assessments of potential AI use cases, and support in developing and launching pilot projects.

He emphasized that digital transformation does not have to begin with building a large-scale system. Institutions can start with a specific task, test the approach in practice and then decide whether and how to expand the use of AI agents across their operations.

As previously reported, IT-Enterprise’s AI technologies are already being used across various sectors of Ukraine’s economy, from logistics to defense.

According to the AI Focus 2026 study conducted by visual communications agency Top Lead, IT-Enterprise ranked in the highest category of companies undergoing AI transformation: “Advanced Stage of AI Adoption.” Analysts found that only 38.9% of Ukrainian companies had reached this level of digital maturity. These companies are predominantly large enterprises, many of which are building their AI transformation on solutions developed by IT-Enterprise.

IT-Enterprise is a Ukrainian product-based IT company with more than 35 years of experience in digital transformation. The company supports digital transformation initiatives at some of Ukraine’s largest companies across the real economy, including Interpipe, Ferrexpo, Nibulon, DTEK, Ukroboronprom, Ukrposhta, Ukrnafta and Ukrzaliznytsia.
