D.TRADING, the European energy trading company within the DTEK Group, has automated the processing of 90% of its bank statements and implemented a unified digital financial management model on the IT-Enterprise platform. The solution covers bank balance monitoring, transaction reconciliation, automated financial analytics and cash flow forecasting. The treasury team now has tools to monitor liquidity in real time, manage cash flows and plan funding requirements across the group's European operations.

Digitalizing Treasury and Managing Financial Flows Across European Operations

D.TRADING operates in 26 European countries and trades on 22 European exchanges. Its product portfolio includes electricity, natural gas, coal, gas condensate, liquid fuels and renewable energy. Since December 2023, the company has also been expanding into agricultural exports.

The scale of its operations places high demands on liquidity management and financial data quality. D.TRADING's direct corporate management scope covers six countries, more than 40 partner banks, 14 operating currencies and approximately 200 active IBAN accounts. In this environment, the treasury function needs complete and accurate banking information, effective cash flow control and reliable visibility into available liquidity across legal entities, banks and currencies.

Following a competitive tender, D.TRADING selected IT-Enterprise to automate treasury processes across all its hubs. The solution complements the company's existing IT landscape, where SAP is used for financial management, and digitalizes treasury operations — from bank data collection and reconciliation to balance monitoring and cash flow forecasting.

1. A Unified Financial Data Methodology

Consolidating financial information across the European group required consistent approaches to accounting, financial analytics and data exchange between systems. A unified methodology enables the company to manage information from different legal entities according to common principles and use it for further analysis and financial decision-making.

“The most important thing was to establish a unified methodology for working with financial data,” says Serhii Naiuk, Head of Treasury at D.TRADING.

The standardized data model provides the foundation for automating banking operations, validating financial information and managing liquidity.

2. Automated Monitoring of Bank Balances and Transactions

The ERP system includes control reports that help verify the completeness of banking data. The treasury team can see which IBAN accounts have had their balances successfully uploaded and where information is still missing.

A separate report reconciles transactions from bank statements against ERP data and identifies discrepancies. This makes data quality checks more efficient and helps the team quickly identify transactions requiring further review.

As a result, the treasury team has a structured set of tools for monitoring banking operations and ensuring the completeness of the information used for financial analysis.

3. Automated Processing of 90% of Bank Statements

The IT-Enterprise platform automatically processes 90% of D.TRADING's bank statements. Payment description parsing is used to classify transactions, allowing the ERP system to populate key accounting fields and financial analytics automatically.

Automation covers the identification of counterparties or counterparty groups, contract matching, currency and transaction amount entry, and the assignment of management accounting dimensions, including:

  • Financial Responsibility Center (FRC);

  • financial item and financial position;

  • product line — gas, electricity, coal or agricultural products.

Automated payment classification reduces the volume of routine manual processing. Treasury specialists can focus on non-standard and new transactions that require additional verification and professional assessment.

4. Payment Calendar and Cash Flow Forecasting

The payment calendar consolidates planned and actual cash flows and forecasts end-of-day balances by legal entity, bank and currency.

The treasury team analyses plan-versus-actual variances, monitors balances both with and without overdraft facilities, and tracks overnight deposits. This information supports short-term funding assessments, helps identify potential cash flow gaps and highlights opportunities to place temporarily available funds.

The payment calendar therefore supports day-to-day cash flow management by providing visibility into available financial resources, helping plan payments and enabling working capital decisions based on up-to-date data.

Key Project Metrics

The scale of digitalization is reflected in both the level of treasury automation and the scope of D.TRADING's financial operations. The IT-Enterprise ERP system supports the management of bank accounts, currencies and financial flows across the European group.

  • 90% of bank statements are processed automatically, including the completion of key transaction details and financial analytics.

  • 200 IBAN accounts are covered by balance upload monitoring and bank transaction reconciliation.

  • 40 partner banks form the banking network of the European group.

  • 14 operating currencies are included in liquidity monitoring and forecasting.

  • 8 countries fall within the scope of direct corporate management.

These figures illustrate the scale of the financial operations managed through a unified digital environment. Automated statement processing, banking data validation and cash flow forecasting work together to create an integrated liquidity management model.

Why This Project Matters for Ukrainian Businesses

D.TRADING's experience is relevant to companies with complex corporate structures, extensive banking networks and multi-currency operations. In such environments, treasury performance depends on financial data quality, processing speed and the accuracy of cash flow forecasts.

A standardized methodology, automated bank statement processing and a payment calendar provide the foundation for systematic liquidity management. These capabilities help finance teams assess funding requirements in a timely manner, plan payments and identify opportunities to use working capital more efficiently.
